What To Do On Your Draft Days?
Hello to the SPW hockey family and welcome to the start of our 2025/26 season!

We have many new players this season so we would like to give a brief overview of what to expect on your draft skills and game days.   This is for U7 through U18 divisions only.

A) Your child will be assigned to a try-out team roster.  If you do not see your child's name on the roster please contact [email protected] ASAP.   You MUST have your Respect in Sport Parent course to be placed on a draft team.  Also for the A draft you must have paid the $50 try out fee when you registered (there was no fee for U9 drafts). These teams should be posted on our website.

B) You are responsible for checking your timeslot often as changes may need to be made.  Please show up on time to avoid delays.  It is advised to show up at least 30 minutes early to get your jersey and check in at the front table for your first ice time. Do not change your child' draft team, you must be at the assigned time to be properly evaluated. To be considered for the A teams your child must participate in at least 2/3 of the on ice sessions.

C). The SPWHL will supply numbered tryout jerseys which you will get at your first scheduled draft time at the table when you walk in the front of the arena.  There will be someone at the table to help you.  The listing of names to jersey numbers will be photocopied and supplied to the coaching staff doing the evaluations so it is VERY IMPORTANT that you do not change jerseys with another child.  Your child will use the same jersey for each of the evaluation skates.  You will keep the jersey until your last draft game (end of A draft you will hand it back in and if needed you will get a new one for the house league draft).   If you do not return your jersey you will be charged the replacement fee of that jersey which must be paid, or jersey returned, before your child can be on the ice as we need those jerseys for the House League drafts.

D) At the conclusion of the draft sessions, the A/T1 coaches will meet with members of the executive and select the players for their teams.  After which the A/T1 final rosters will be posted on the website.

E) After the A/T1 draft the remaining players not yet placed on a team (or those who chose not to try for A/T1) will be assigned to HL/T2 draft teams and those new try-out rosters will be posted on the website within a day or so of the conclusion of the A/T1 draft.

F) The HL/T2 coaches will then be finalized.

G) For most leagues, the HL/T2 draft ice times are very shortly after the A/T1 drafts so please monitor the website & FB pages closely for updates.

We thank everyone for their patience during this time.

We cannot wait for a wonderful season!
